Mycogen Seeds Offers Eight New Silage Corn Hybrids for 2011
Lineup includes first BMR hybrid with SmartStax™
Indianapolis, IN - July 26, 2010
Mycogen Seeds is adding eight new BMR and TMF hybrids to its 2011 lineup of SILAGE-SPECIFIC™ corn hybrids. The new portfolio offers a wide selection of silage corn hybrids, designed to help growers find the right fit for their unique forage situations.
“Mycogen Seeds is excited to offer new hybrids with the latest technology to provide agronomic solutions while maximizing milk production,” says Greg Cannon, forage product marketing specialist, Mycogen Seeds. “This includes our first BMR hybrid with SmartStax technology, offering multiple modes of action and the broadest-spectrum insect protection available. With SmartStax, growers also benefit from a reduced refuge requirement, to maximize yield potential and ultimately increase tonnage.”
New BMR hybrids
F2F626 is the first SmartStax™ BMR silage hybrid available exclusively from Mycogen Seeds. The combination of traits in SmartStax provides the most complete insect protection ever available in a single package, making possible a 5 percent1 refuge requirement. SmartStax technology also provides herbicide flexibility. A 109-day hybrid, F2F626 features very good digestibility and outstanding stress tolerance.
F2F387 is a 95-day BMR hybrid that includes all the great feeding characteristics of the fuller-season BMRs. It yields well with high populations and offers excellent tonnage and digestibility. F2F387 comes with HERCULEX® XTRA Insect Protection, along with Roundup® and IGNITE® herbicide tolerance. It features excellent ear development and fill and is an earlier-maturing companion to F2F488.
Providing excellent standability and stress tolerance, F2F298 is a full-season hybrid for use on moderate to higher fertility soils in Northern geographies. This hybrid offers above- ground insect protection with HERCULEX I Insect Protection. It also includes tolerance to Roundup and IGNITE herbicides.
A 112-day hybrid, F2F713 is an attractive, tall hybrid with good ears and high tonnage. It features very good whole-plant digestibility. F2F713 comes with a strong agronomic package, including HERCULEX I Insect Protection for excellent control of above-ground insects, and flexibility offered by Roundup and IGNITE herbicide tolerance. It is especially suited for Western growing conditions.
F2F714 passes the eye test; the tall plant has full ears and high tonnage yield. Well suited for growing in the Western United States, the hybrid provides excellent whole-plant digestibility and very good agronomics. It also incorporates HERCULEX I Insect Protection, along with Roundup and IGNITE herbicide tolerance traits.
New TMF hybrids
TMF2Q493 is an attractive 97-day medium-tall hybrid with a medium ear placement. It yields excellent tonnage with high quality and provides good stress tolerance. TMF2Q493 has moderately hard kernel texture and offers Roundup herbicide options.
TMF2L872 is very well-adapted to California and Southwest silage markets. Tall plants feature high ear placement with a narrow leaf and very erect canopy. Ears flex for length, and kernel processing is recommended. TMF2L827 offers good digestibility combined with very high tonnage. The hybrid includes HERCULEX® I Insect Protection for excellent control of above-ground insects, and offers herbicide flexibility with Roundup and IGNITE tolerance.
A 101-day hybrid, TMF2L530 is a tall hybrid with medium ear placement and excellent eye appeal. TMF2L530 delivers both high forage yield and high forage quality, with Roundup tolerance. The hybrid features very good early vigor and moderately soft kernel texture.
Maximum milk production
Mycogen Seeds conducts extensive research, development and testing of corn hybrids bred specifically for silage production.
“We believe our hybrids have the best disease and agronomic packages combined with the best tonnage and digestibility options that will maximize dairy producers’ return on investment,” Cannon says.
