SmartStax™ is the 2009 New Product of the Year
AgProfessional Magazine Readers Select SmartStax for Impact on Corn Production
Indianapolis, IN - March 10, 2010
SmartStax™, the revolutionary new seed trait combination co-developed by Dow AgroSciences, has received the AgProfessional Readers’ Choice 2009 New Product of the Year Award. Taking into consideration that SmartStax reduces refuge requirements and provides the broadest spectrum of above- and below-ground insect protection, AgProfessional readers chose SmartStax as the most innovative product to reach the market in 2009. SmartStax topped nine other new products that were selected by the publication’s editors and opened to online reader voting. The voting was based on the products’ potential impact on the agricultural industry. With more than a third of the total vote, SmartStax was the clear winner.
“It is a great honor to be chosen for this award as the core audience of AgProfessional consists of crop consultants, ag retailers and farm managers,” said Casey Onstot, traits marketing manager, Dow AgroSciences. “It shows that these professionals realize the tremendous potential SmartStax™ will have on their customers’ yields.”
The new trait combination allows growers to reduce the refuge requirement from 20 percent to 5 percent,1 achieving more yield on more acres. SmartStax delivers multiple modes of action for above- and below-ground insect control for the broadest spectrum of insect control ever available.
This is another high-profile award for SmartStax, which received a 2009 FinOvation Award. Presented by Farm Industry News magazine, the award is based on the reader response to new products featured in the magazine or on the Web. In 2008, SmartStax ranked first among the 10 FinOvation Award winners.
For Dow AgroSciences technology, this marks the third time in three years that a product has been named product of the year by an agricultural publication. HERCULEX® Insect Protection earned this same distinction twice -- in 2008 from AgriMarketing and in 2007 from No-Till Farmer.
