Mycogen Seeds BMR Varieties Win at World Ag Expo Forage Challenge
INDIANAPOLIS — Feb. 8, 2011 — MYCOGEN® brand SILAGE-SPECIFIC™ corn hybrids won several awards in the second annual World Ag Expo Forage Challenge. Entries were judged in three categories: standard corn silage, BMR corn silage and alfalfa hay. Winners were announced at the 2011 World Ag Expo show held in Tulare, Calif., with finalist entries on display for the duration of the show.
All winners in the BMR corn silage category were made with the same hybrid — MYCOGEN
F2F797. First place and a $3,000 cash prize went to Tony Borba Jr. of Tony Borba Dairy, Escalon, Calif. Jared Silveira of Barreto & Silveira of Hanford, Calif., won the $2,000 second-place prize and John Martin of Rynsburger Dairy, Strathmore, Calif., won third place and $1,000.
The 2011 World Ag Expo Forage Challenge was open to farmers and ranchers from 11 Western states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Cash prizes were awarded based on forage lab analyses, along with a visual evaluation of the entries by experts in dairy nutrition and forage production.
Mycogen Seeds was the presenting sponsor of the event, and Lallemand Animal Nutrition sponsored the cash prizes.
