Mycogen Seeds Hybrid Grower Wins World Forage Analysis Superbowl
INDIANAPOLIS — Oct. 4, 2012 — MYCOGEN®
brand SILAGE-SPECIFIC™
corn hybrids produced the World Forage Grand Champion and other
award-winning entries at the World Forage Analysis Superbowl. Winners were
announced Oct. 3 at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis.
Indianhead
Holsteins, Barron, Wis., was named the World Forage Grand Champion for its
MYCOGEN F2F297 BMR corn silage entry. The sample received a final score of
96.5 with 65.3 percent neutral detergent fiber digestibility (NDFD) and a
calculated milk per ton of 3,754 pounds. Other forage test values were 35.5
percent neutral detergent fiber (NDF), 7.6 percent crude protein (CP) and
37.1 percent starch.
Co-Vista Holsteins
of Arcade, N.Y. was named the Grand Champion in the BMR Corn Silage category
with corn silage made from MYCOGEN BMR hybrid F2F387. The sample scored a
total of 95.3 points with 65.8 percent digestibility and a milk per ton of
3,556 pounds.
Atwater Farms
of Barker, N.Y., was named Grand Champion First Time Entrant for its MYCOGEN
F2F569 BMR corn silage entry. The sample received a final score of 93 with
63.7 percent digestibility and 3,691 pounds of milk per ton.

hybrids swept the competition in the BMR Dairy Corn Silage rankings, taking
all eight places. In addition to the Grand Champion in this category, other
BMR hybrid winners included: Rich Ro North, St. Johns, Mich., second place;
Trierweiler Dairy, Portland, Mich., third place; Merrill Farms Inc.,
Wolcott, N.Y., fourth place; Clark Dairy Farm, Mount Pleasant, Mich., fifth
place; Easterday Dairy Farm, Camden, Mich., sixth place; Champion Farms LLC,
Clinton, N.Y., seventh place; and Pine Tree Dairy, Rittman, Ohio, eighth
place.
Dairy

In the Standard Dairy Corn Silage (non-BMR) category, MYCOGEN brand hybrids
performed very well, earning five of the top 10 awards. Winning entries
using MYCOGEN hybrids included: Steinhaus Ponderosa, LeRoy, Mich., second
place; Emmons Dairy Farm, Chesterfield, Ohio, fourth place; Sand Creek
Dairy, Hastings, Mich., sixth place; Miller Farms, Marlette, Mich., ninth
place; and Rathmourne Dairy, Marlette, Mich., 10th place.
All corn silage
winners were selected based on forage analysis, visual analysis and milk per
ton.
Quality Counts Winner
Merrell Farms, Inc., Walcott, N.Y. was Corn Silage Quality Counts winner.
This award is based on a different quality measurement each year and this
year was given for total tract digestibility. Merrell Farms entered the BMR
corn silage category with a MYCOGEN F2F482 hybrid.

In the Dairy Haylage category, two Mycogen Seeds customers were recognized
as finalists. Hickory Gables Farms in Hickory Corners, Mich. earned fourth
place with MYCOGN 4A415 and Leroy Bazuin of Tustin, Mich. came in the fifth
place spot with MYCOGEN 4A421. And R&R Swiss Farms of Lakeville, Ohio earned
third place in the Baleage category, also with MYCOGEN alfalfa variety
4A421.
