MYCOGEN ELECTS NEW BOARD MEMBER

SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- Mycogen Corporation (Nasdaq: MYCO) announced today that Louis W. Pribila vice president, secretary and general counsel of DowElanco has been elected to Mycogen's board of directors to serve until the next annual meeting. Pribila replaces A. John Speziale, who resigned as a director but has joined Mycogen's Scientific Advisory Board.

Pribila is the fifth DowElanco representative on Mycogen's nine-member board. On December 2, DowElanco acquired one million shares of Mycogen stock, increasing its ownership percentage to 51.8 percent of the total shares outstanding. According to the terms of an agreement the two companies entered into in February 1996, when DowElanco acquired 46 percent of Mycogen's common shares, ownership of more than 50 percent of Mycogen's outstanding shares entitles DowElanco to designate a majority of Mycogen's board.

Prior to assuming his current responsibilities at DowElanco, Pribila was with The Dow Chemical Company, where he held various positions in manufacturing, research and engineering before joining Dow's legal department in 1974. In 1978, he was appointed general counsel of Dowell, Dow's oil field services subsidiary, and in 1984, he became general counsel for Dow Chemical Pacific. In 1989, he was appointed Dow's assistant general counsel. Pribila also serves as a director of Deere Insurance Company and as secretary of Dintec Agrichemicals.

Mycogen is a diversified agricultural biotechnology company that develops and markets technology-based products and provides crop protection services to control agricultural pests and improve food and fiber production. Mycogen Seeds develops and markets planting seeds for improved crop varieties with genetically enhanced insect-resistance and other value-added characteristics. Mycogen Crop Protection develops and markets environmentally compatible biopesticides and provides crop protection services to growers of high value crops in California and Arizona.
