SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Mycogen Corporation (Nasdaq: MYCO) announced today that W. Wayne Withers, Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of Emerson Electric Co., and William C. Schmidt, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of DowElanco, have been elected to Mycogen�s Board of Directors to serve until the next annual meeting. The new director positions increase the size of Mycogen�s board to nine members.
Withers, 55, joined Emerson in 1989, after spending 21 years with Monsanto Company. From 1986 to 1989, he was Vice President and General Counsel of Monsanto Agricultural Company. He holds a JD degree from the Northwestern University school of law and a BA degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Schmidt, 57, began his career with The Dow Chemical Company in 1961. He joined DowElanco, a partnership between Dow and Eli Lilly & Company, when the partnership was formed in 1989. He holds BBA and MBA degrees in accounting from the University of Michigan and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is the fourth Mycogen board member representing DowElanco, which owns more than 47 percent of Mycogen�s common stock.
Mycogen is a diversified agricultural biotechnology company that develops and markets technology-based products and provides crop protection services to control agricultural pests and improve food and fiber production. Mycogen Seeds develops and markets planting seeds for improved crop varieties with genetically enhanced insect-resistance and other value-added characteristics. Mycogen Crop Protection develops and markets environmentally compatible biopesticides and provides crop protection services to growers of high value crops in California and Arizona.
