STONE FRUIT
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
on Stone Fruit Tip #1021 12/92
M-Pede® Insecticide is an effective insecticide-miticide labeled for use on a wide variety of stone fruits, and other fruits, vegetables, field crops, ornamental and greenhouse plants. With a formulation based on potassium salts of naturally derived fatty acids, M-Pede effectively controls many soft-bodied pests, but is low in acute toxicity to non-target ogranisms and the environment.
MODE OF ACTION
M-Pede effectively controls small soft-bodied pests. It acts on contact, penetrates the pest's body, breaks down cell membranes and causes rapid death of the target mite or insect.

STEPS FOR CONTROL
1. Monitor trees beginning early in the season and make applications as needed when the targeted life stage(s) of pests are present.
2. Use a 2% solution of M-Pede when applied alone. For enhanced control and residual activity, a 1% solution of M-Pede may be tank mixed with certain companion products (see TIP #1037: "Tank Mixes").
3. M-Pede must contact the targeted pest to be effective. Complete coverage of the upper and
lower leaf surfaces is essential for control.
4. Apply M-Pede spray solution to wet (not run off) with an air blast or other appropriate sprayer.
Applications with an air blast sprayer are recommended at a maximum volume of 175 gallons per acre on peaches and 100 gallons per acre on smooth skinned fruits.
5. Make applications at five to seven day intervals or as needed to control newly hatched or reinfesting
pest populations.
USE GUIDELINES
Hard Water: Condition water prior to adding M-Pede if total water hardness exceeds 300 ppm
(17.5 grains). To determine if a hard water conditioning agent is required, perform a jar test (see TIP #1003: "Hard Water Testing"). If needed, use a conditioning agent such as Tri-Ad 73,
Spray-Aide, Blendex® or Latron AG-44M (Triton AG-44M®). Do not use alkaline based conditioners such as those containing EDTA.
Tank Mixing: A 1% solution of M-Pede may be tank mixed with companion pesticides to obtain enhanced and residual control of target pests. Always read the labels of each pesticide used in a tank mix combination and always follow the most stringent requirements listed among the labels. Always do a compatibility test before making large scale applications with any tank mix combination.
Mixing: M-Pede mixes readily with soft water. If water conditioning is required, add conditioners first. Vigorous agitation is not required. If excessive foaming occurs, use a de-foaming agent. Add M-Pede to the spray tank after compatibility agents and other pesticides are added (see TIP #1037: "Tank Mixes" for additional information on mixing pesticides).
Application: M-Pede works on contact; once it dries, it is no longer effective. For best results, spray in the early morning when temperatures are cool to promote slow drying of the spray solution. Products that act as humectants, such as SunSpray® Ultra Fine Spray Oil, may enhance control when mixed with
M-Pede. Use freshly mixed spray. Do not allow tank mixtures to stand overnight. Avoid applications when trees are stressed (such as hot/humid conditions) to reduce the potential for phytotoxicity.
RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS
To avoid injury to fruit, do not make dilute spray applications on smooth skinned fruit after fruit formation. Do not apply M-Pede in high water volumes that cause rundown of spray and collection at the bottom of the fruit before it dries. M-Pede is not recommended for use on yellow-skinned nectarine varieties.
Do not spray M-Pede more than three times within a two week period.
Do not use M-Pede with a spreader sticker.
Tank mix combinations with various foliar nutrients or pesticides containing metallic ions (such as zinc, iron, etc.) may be physically incompatible and ultimately phytotoxic. Do not attempt their use with M-Pede without using a compatibility agent.
Use other products for ovicidal (egg) control of insects and mites. M-Pede is active only on emerged pests.
