TANK MIXES
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE
Enhanced Activity With M-Pede Insecticide Tank Mixtures
M-Pede is an effective insecticide and miticide labeled for use on a wide variety of fruits, nuts, vegetables, field crops, ornamental and greenhouse plants. With a formulation based on potassium salts of naturally derived fatty acids, M-Pede effectively controls many soft-bodied pests, but is low in toxicity to non-target organisms and the environment. M-Pede's fast knockdown activity in addition to its excellent wetting properties make it an ideal tank mix partner for other insecticides and miticides.
Mode of Action: M-Pede acts on contact by disrupting the pest's cuticle and cell membranes resulting in rapid death of the target insect or mite. Because it's mode of action is different from that of most other insecticides and miticides, M-Pede can be a useful tool in resistance management programs.
Enhancement of Companion Insecticides and Miticides: M-Pede can enhance the
activity of certain insecticides and miticides. Research has shown that a 1% solution of
M-Pede enhances activity of products which include, but are not limited to, abamectin (marketed as Agri-Mek, Avid and Zephyr), Asana, Cygon, Diazinon, Dursban, Lorsban, Kelthane, Malathion, Mavrik Aquaflow, Orthene, Sevin, Thiodan and Vendex for control of soft bodied pests. Eight U.S. patents have been issued which disclose the use of M-Pede to enhance activity of certain companion insecticides and miticides.
FIELD TRIAL RESULTS
Examples of Enhanced Pest Control With M-Pede Insecticide Tank Mixes
STEPS FOR SUCCESSFUL TANK MIX RESULTS
1. Clean spray tanks to prevent tank mix components from reacting with pesticide residues that may be present inside the spray tank.
2. Determine if water hardness exceeds 300 ppm (See TIP # 1003, "Hard Water Testing")
and select an appropriate compatibility (conditioning) agent if needed.
3. Conduct a compatibility test with proportional amounts of product to be used.
4. Fill tank 1/2 to 3/4 full with water and begin agitation.
5. Add pesticides in the following order:
- Compatibility (conditioning) agents if required
- Wettable and soluble powders
- Flowable liquids
- Emulsifiable oils and concentrates
- M-Pede
6. Continue to agitate while filling tank and spraying. Use a defoaming agent if required.
7. Spray tank mixtures promptly to reduce or avoid alkaline hydrolysis of certain companion products.
8. Thorough coverage of the pests is required for control with M-Pede. Apply with sufficient pressure, carrier volume and nozzle type to penetrate foliage and ensure contact of insect and mite pests.
RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS
Sensitivity of fruit and plant foliage to pesticide applications can be influenced by cultivar, plant vigor, environmental conditions, spray concentration, spray additives, delivery volume and the timing, number and frequency of applications. Evaluate the effect of M-Pede at the intended use rate alone or in combination with the desired companion product(s) on a few test plants prior to full-scale applications when sensitivity of plant cultivars under local use conditions is unknown.
Avoid applications when plants are stressed (such as hot/humid conditions) to reduce the potential for phytotoxicity.
To reduce potential for injury to sensitive plants such as cucumbers, the pH of the final spray mixture should be above 8.0.
Tank mix combinations with various foliar nutrients, spreader stickers, alkaline based chelating agents such as EDTA, pesticides containing sulfur or metallic ions (such as manganese, magnesium, iron, zinc, etc.), Aliette or chlorothalonil may be physically incompatible and/or ultimately phytotoxic.
Do not tank mix M-Pede with penetrators or calcium nitrate.
Always read and carefully follow all product labels.
