DeMOSS™ MOSS AND ALGICIDE

DeMoss contains a compliment of fatty acids selected for their activity on moss, algae and liverworts. DeMoss was developed for surface fouling primitive plants called cryptograms (algae, liverworts and mosses) and is sold to control these organisms on structural surfaces and in turf.

IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES OF DeMoss FOR STRUCTURES

EFFECTIVE: Quickly kills algae, mosses, liverworts and lichens on roofs, walkways, patios, fences and other surfaces. Inhibits recolonization for one to several years.

EASY TO USE: DeMoss mixes readily with water and is easy to apply. DeMoss works best and is most effective when applied to a pre-wetted surface.

ENVIRONMENTALLY COMPATIBLE: DeMoss contains no petrochemicals or highly toxic pentachlorophenol, so it can be used around pets, birds and wildlife. Ideal for use around houses and public buildings such as schools and office buildings.

NATURAL: DeMoss is biodegradable. It is made from natural occurring fatty acids and does not leave a harmful residue.

EASY ON STRUCTURES: DeMoss contains no iron or other metals so it is not corrosive to metal flashings, gutters and downspouts, and it is non-staining to most surfaces including white stucco.

IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES OF DeMoss FOR LAWNS

EFFECTIVE: Quickly kills algae, mosses and liverworts in lawns, growing containers or on soil surfaces.

ENVIRONMENTALLY COMPATIBLE: DeMoss is made from all natural ingredients and does not contaminate the soil thus permitting immediate reseeding.

COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT MOSS AND ALGAE

Q. Why should I control these plants? I think moss looks pretty.

A. In some situations these plants can be beautiful, but they can also be hazardous and destructive. Algae and mosses can make surfaces slippery underfoot and have the potential of causing personal injury from falls. Mosses can cause deterioration of roofing materials.

Q. How does moss and algae damage a roof?

A. Algae causes discoloration such as the black film that appears on shakes and shingles. Mosses actually send their roots into cracks and crevices and even into the surface of wooden roofing. As the moss grows it causes heaving of the roofing that may lead to the development of leaks. The growth of moss holds moisture that encourages decay.

Q. Can I use DeMoss™ to control algae in and around my swimming pool or garden pond?

A. DeMoss was developed to control terrestrial rather than acquatic algae. We do not recommend adding it to water because it would take too much to do any good. However, DeMoss can be used to eliminate slippery areas around a pond or swimming pool.

Q. Should I control moss growing in some of my plant containers?

A. That's a matter of preference. A dense layer of moss and/or liverworts will impede water penetration and use nutrients. If you like the look of it, however, remember to soak the container well and give the plant a little more food. If you want to kill the cryptograms, apply DeMoss so as not to get it on the foliage of the container plant.

Q. If I spray my roof, do I need to protect my plants from excess DeMoss runoff from the roof?

A. Yes, if your roof does not have gutters and downspouts protect the foundation plants as best you can. If DeMoss runs off onto the plants, hose them down with fresh water as soon as possible.

Q. I sprayed a cemented brick walkway (or grouted tile patio) and ended up with a white residue. How can I remove it?

A. The white residue comes from a reaction of the soap with the lime in the cement (or grout) which forms a soap scale. It is not a stain and will eventually weather away.
