GENERAL INFORMATION

MVP®II Bioinsecticide provides selective and effective control of worm pests in stone fruit, pome fruit and nuts. MVP II belongs to a new class of bioinsecticides based on Mycogen's Cellcap® Encapsulation System with increased residual activity and higher potency. MVP II is effective against several worm pests of tree crops, but has little or no toxicity to beneficial insects and mammals.

• Mode of Action: MVP II contains a specially selected delta endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki encapsulated in killed Pseudomonas fluorescens bacteria. The delta endotoxin is a potent insect stomach poison and must be eaten by the target worm to be effective. Once eaten the biotoxin disrupts the worm's digestive system, resulting in starvation and death one to five days later. MVP II is most effective against small feeding worms in tree fruits and nuts.
• CellCap® Encapsulation System: MVP II utilizes the CellCap Encapsulation System, a patented process which improves its field performance and shelf life. Conventional Bts degrade rapidly on the leaf surface due to adverse effects of heat, sunlight and other environmental factors. This degradation renders the biotoxin ineffective against feeding larvae. MVP II uses biological microcapsules to protect the biotoxins from environmental degradation. As a result MVP II remains active longer on the leaf and provides more consistent and effective pest control.

GENERAL USE GUIDELINES:

• MVP II is most effective when applications are targeted at newly hatched worms before they penetrate the foliage or fruit.
• Use MVP II 1 - 2 quarts per acre. Use the 2 quart rate under heavy insect pressure.
• Uniform and complete coverage of the foliage where larvae are feeding is essential for good control. Application water volume should be sufficient to ensure good coverage, a range of 50-100 GPA is recommended. Do not apply MVP II in volumes to runoff.
• To improve coverage and deposition on foliage the addition of a labeled sticker is recommended. Avoid using excessive rates of spreading or wetting adjuvants that will promote runoff of MVP II.
• When tank mixing MVP II with other insecticides, comply with the most restrictive label instructions of all products which are included.
• Reapply MVP II if rain occurs within six hours after treatment.

APPLICATION TIMING:

Always target sprays against newly hatched larvae. For optimal timing, scout for moth flights, eggs and newly hatched larvae.

STONE FRUIT AND ALMONDS: Peach twig borer (PTB), oriental fruitmoth, navel orangeworm (NOW). Time MVP II applications to control small feeding worms as follows:

Bloom Sprays - to control overwintering PTB, time MVP II applications to target feeding larvae at pink or popcorn stage, followed by a second spray at petal fall.

May Sprays - monitor adult PTB using pheromone traps or a day-degree model and apply one to two sprays to feeding larvae.

Hull Split Spray - in almonds, target small PTB and NOW larvae with one or two sprays depending on larval pressure.

APPLES: Oblique banded, Pandemis and fruittree leafrollers.

Early Season Control - (overwintering leafrollers). A first application should be made at pink stage, followed by a second application during bloom to petal fall. Applications must be timed to target small feeding larvae and to provide foliar protection before leaf rolling occurs.

Late Season Control - Scout orchards and apply MVP II on a 7-10 day interval or as needed to control reinfesting or increasing leafroller populations.

This bulletin contains new or supplemental instructions for the use of this product which may not appear on the package label. Mycogen provides this use information in accordance with Section 2(ee) of FIFRA.
