For Control of Caterpillar Pests in Vegetables
Including Armyworms, Loopers, Diamond Back Moths,
and Heliothis/Helicoverpa Species
GENERAL INFORMATION
MVP®II Bioinsecticide is the first in a new class
of increased residual, high potency biological insecticides based
on Mycogen's CellCap® Encapsulation System. The biotoxin,
active ingredient in MVP II is effective against several caterpillar
pests, but is of low toxicity to beneficial insects and mammals.
- Mode of Action: MVP®II contains a specially selected
delta-endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis variety kurstaki,
encapsulated in killed Pseudomonas fluorescens. The delta-
endotoxin is a potent insect stomach poison and must be eaten
by the target insect to be effective. Once eaten the biotoxin
disrupts the larva's digestive system, resulting in an immediate
halt to feeding with starvation and death occuring one to five
days later. MVP II is most effective against young
1st and 2nd instar caterpillar larvae.
- CellCap® Encapsulation System: MVP II utilizes
the CellCap Encapsulation System, a patented process which improves
its field performance and shelf life. Conventional Bt's degrade
rapidly on the leaf surface due to adverse effects of heat, sunlight,
and other environmental factors. This degradation renders the
biotoxin ineffective against feeding larvae. MVP II uses
biological microcapsules to protect the biotoxins from environmental
degradation. As a result MVP II provides greater foliar persistence
than traditional Bt products. MVP II delivers more consistent,
longer lasting control of caterpillar pests.

USE GUIDELINES
- Use MVP II at 1.0 - 1.5 quarts per acre when used alone,
or 0.5 - 1.0 quart when tank mixed with other pesticides which
are also directed at lepidopteran pests.
- Uniform and complete coverage of the foliage where larvae
are feeding is essential to good control. Application water volume
should be sufficient to ensure good coverage, a minimum of 20
GPA is recommended. For aerial application, use a minimum of 5
gallons of total spray volume per acre.
- The addition of an appropriately labeled spreader-sticker
is recommended to improve coverage and deposition on crop foliage.
Avoid using excessive rates of spreading or wetting adjuvants
on cole crops where the waxy cuticle will promote runoff of MVP
II.
- When tank mixing MVP II with other insecticides, comply
with all label instructions of all products included in the mixture.
STEPS FOR SUCCESSFUL RESULTS
- Scout for eggs and apply MVP II when newly hatched
larvae are present. MVP II is most effective when applications
are targeted at newly hatched 1st and 2nd instar larvae, and before
the insect can penetrate inside the plants protective foliage
or fruit.
- Scout fields 5 to 7 days after application to determine the
effectiveness of the application, and to assess the need for subsequent
applications.
- Reapply product as needed to control increasing pest populations.
More than one application per week may be necessary when worm
populations are high.
- Reapply MVP II if rain occurs within six hours after
treatment.
Always read and carefully follow all product labels.
