Environment, Health and SafetyRESPONSIBLE CARE® - A TOTAL COMMITMENT Companies live by the grace of public acceptance…not for themselves. At Dow AgroSciences we honour public acceptance, including life, property and the environment, through our commitment to the Responsible Care Ethic. Our commitment begins its journey early in Research and Development activities and continues throughout the manufacture, sale, distribution, use and disposal of a product. All facets of health, safety and environment are integrated through our Code of Ethics as well as Responsible Care Codes of Practice. Through effective Environment, Health and Safety management systems, performance measures and continuous improvement we sustain the safe and responsible management of our facilities, processes and products. Product Stewardship We conduct all business activities consistent with our Product Stewardship philosophy. This philosophy requires us to continuously assess the safety, health and environmental impact of our products and services and to protect our employees, suppliers, customers, the public and our environment. RESPONSIBLE CARE CODES OF PRACTICE Community Outreach and Emergency Response: We reach out to the community through a Community Advisory Panel and are sensitive and responsive to legitimate concerns; we maintain up to date and operational emergency response plans and annually test for effectiveness. Research and Development: We make protection of people and the environment from hazards an integral part of our planning process. This applies to existing as well as new agricultural products, processes, equipment uses and technologies. Manufacturing: We protect people and the environment around our sites; assess and communicate hazards associated with manufacturing; promote safety throughout all our operations and communicate risks, hazards and protective measures to employees and our community. Distribution: We protect people and the environment throughout the supply chain and product life cycle; work at improving relationships with suppliers, warehouse facilities, distributors and retailers and ensure people are educated on how to use our products in a safe and responsible manner. Transportation: With a focus on prevention, we maximize the safe handling and transportation of our products and create awareness and communicate emergency response capabilities along transportation corridors. Hazardous Waste Management: We protect the health and safety of people and the environment through waste elimination, reduction, recycling, recovery and re-use. WALK THE TALK - EXTERNAL COMPLIANCE VERIFICATION Every three years a team of independent external verifiers is assigned to assess performance of Canadian Responsible Care companies. The Canadian Chemical Producers' Association (CCPA) selects two experienced verifiers from member companies along with a National Advisory Panel representative. The company that is verified selects a local community representative according to specific guidelines established by CCPA. CCPA's team of verifiers spend several days interviewing Responsible Care company leaders and staff, their customers, suppliers, end users and the community that is located within in the manufacturing region. CCPA's verification team identifies and communicates areas for suggested improvement. For more information about Responsible Care, please visit the CCPA web site.
