R&D Career Paths and Opportunities

The career path choices in R&D are broad and exciting:

  • Discovery – At the beginning of the product pipeline, cross-disciplinary, self-directed teams of scientists work to discover novel and effective solutions to the challenges facing customers. They may range from chemical or biological methods to genetically engineered plants and new technologies.
  • Supply Research and Development – In this function, scientists develop products invented by Discovery into viable commercial products. Process Research Chemists determine the most effective methods for scale-up and manufacture of the active ingredient of a product. Formulation chemists work to develop stable and safe formulation and packaging systems.
  • The Modeling Center of Expertise – Scientists leverage modeling technology and bio-statistical techniques to facilitate field and laboratory scientists in their generation and evaluation of data.
  • Regulatory Laboratories – To ensure a product will not present unreasonable health or environmental risks, our Regulatory scientists subject it to more than 120 separate tests.
  • Regulatory – Regulatory managers work with governmental agencies so that only products found to be safe to human, non-target organisms and the environment advance to commercialization.
  • Field Research and Development – Field Research and Development scientists fully characterize new products and technologies in extensive field trials. They conduct research in support of label expansions and existing uses of current products. Responsibilities include soliciting the participation of university researchers and customers in field trials to gain understanding for the potential uses of products and technology. These scientists are also responsible for our plant breeding efforts, which support the development of our biotechnology based product line.
  • Trait Introgression and Plant Transformation/Cell Biology – These laboratory based scientists are responsible for the development of our genetic-based products.
  • Technicians – To support of all of these functions, we hire technicians with high school diplomas or associates degrees.
