Mycogen Seeds Adds Six New
Sunflower Hybrids for the Dakotas and Minnesota
Eagan, Minn., Dec. 28, 1998
. . . Mycogen Seeds has strengthened its arsenal of sunflower hybrids
with six new offerings for 1999.
"As the leader in the
sunflower seed business, we're excited to introduce an even stronger line
of hybrids for 1999," says Cliff Watrin, technical information manager
for Mycogen Seeds. "Many of America's sunflower farmers look to us
for sunflower hybrids because we continue to provide products that perform.
"Our new oil sunflower
hybrids offer high oil contents, excellent standability and improved tolerance
to premature ripening. The new mid-oleic oilseed line also provides an
excellent midrange alternative to our popular high-oleic sunflower hybrids."
Oil Sunflower Hybrids
8282: This early-season
hybrid will impress growers familiar with Mycogen brand Comet. 8282 features
improved plant health and standability, higher oil production and significantly
greater yield potential per acre.
8372: This mid-season
maturity hybrid combines the high yield potential of Mycogen brand 8370
with the extraordinarily high oil content of 658 to produce superior oil
yields per acre. This new medium height hybrid offers improved plant health
and standability compared to 658, too.
8468: A reduced-height
hybrid with excellent standability, 8468 has a shorter-than-average neck
curvature for easier harvest. This medium-to-full-season hybrid has been
adapted to the southern half of North Dakota and all of South Dakota.
8468 produces a high oil content similar to Mycogen brand Cavalry.
NuSun Mid-Oleic Sunflower
Hybrids
NuSun sunflower hybrids
produce an oil that needs no hydrogenation and helps eliminate any concerns
about trans-fatty acids in prepared foods. NuSun hybrids are 20 percent
lower in saturated fats than traditional sunflower.
8242NS: One of the earliest
NuSun hybrids on the market, 8242NS is similar in maturity to Comet. Excellent
plant health, standability and yield potential help make this new hybrid
exceptionally appealing. Medium-height plants with excellent uniformity
give it lots of eye appeal in the field, too.
8377NS: An attractive
mid-season NuSun hybrid with medium plant height and excellent uniformity
offers very good premature-ripening tolerance and high yield potential.
This NuSun hybrid is widely adapted across mid-season growing areas of
the Dakotas and the western High Plains.
8488NS: This new, full-season
NuSun hybrid features high yield potential and very good plant health.
Widely adapted across the full-season areas of the Dakotas, 8488NS demonstrates
very good tolerance to premature ripening.
Mycogen's sunflower lineup
includes linoleic oilseed (traditional), mid-oleic, high-oleic and confection
hybrids.
Along with these six new sunflower
hybrids, Mycogen also is introducing several new corn hybrids, Totally
Managed Feedstuffs® (TMF) corn silage hybrids, TMF alfalfa varieties
and soybean varieties.
