Dear Producer: The debate over genetically enhanced crops has gotten the attention of crop producers, the media and agribusiness across the United States and around the world. While this debate over the merits of genetically enhanced crops will not be fully resolved in the short term, whatever the outcome, Mycogen is committed to offering you the seed products you need to produce a successful crop. In the near term, however, we understand your need to know if you will be able to market the grain from genetically enhanced seed next year. While we believe that there will be markets for both genetically enhanced and conventional crops, the best answer we can provide is to talk with your local grain buyer and consider how the situation has unfolded to date.
I am sure you are well aware of the advantages of planting Bt corn or Roundup Ready soybeans. Since their introduction by Mycogen in 1996, NatureGard Bt corn hybrids have helped farmers reach higher yields, and larger profits, by limiting their yield losses from ECB. Roundup Ready soybeans also offer an outstanding weed control alternative. Historically, when situations such as the debate over genetically enhanced crops have arisen where emotion seems to override science science has eventually won and the technology in debate has moved forward. We continue to believe in the merits of agricultural biotechnology and the sound science on which todays genetically enhanced seeds are based. The links on this page provide more information on the issues surrounding genetically enhanced crops as well as a listing of Mycogen conventional and genetically enhanced products. As you are making your seed-buying decision for 2000 planting, consult with your local Mycogen representative. He or she can provide additional details on this situation. For the name of the Mycogen representative nearest you, call (800) 380-7282. Sincerely, Tim Kroenke |
