MYCOGEN SEEDS TO CO-MARKET TMF® SILAGE CORN HYBRIDS
7/30/1998 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Mycogen Corporation's Mycogen Seeds unit and Croplan Genetics, the seed marketing division of Land O'Lakes, Inc., have signed a definitive agreement to co-market TMF® brand corn silage hybrids developed by Mycogen.
"Cenex Harvest States/Land O'Lakes' strength in forage research and marketing combined with their livestock nutritional expertise make them an ideal partner to co-market our unique lineup of corn hybrids bred specifically for livestock feed," said Michael Muston, president of Mycogen Seeds. "This agreement also broadens our distribution of TMF products into areas where Cenex Harvest States/Land O'Lakes has a very strong presence."
Mycogen Seeds developed its TMF line of seed corn products to better meet the needs of dairy and cattle producers who grow corn and harvest and chop the entire plant to be fed as silage. TMF Silage-SpecificTM corn hybrids offer outstanding whole-plant yield potential, improved harvestibility, better digestibility and more milk or meat per acre over dual-purpose hybrids.
Croplan Genetics will begin taking orders for the silage-specific seed corn later this summer for delivery and planting next spring. Mycogen Seeds has been marketing TMF hybrids since 1995.
"We have been conducting yield and nutritional testing of various seed corn genetic types as to their suitability for corn silage for the past three years," said Land O'Lakes Vice President David Seehusen. "The high digestible dry matter per acre, starch availability and fiber-digestibility of TMF hybrids will be an important forage component of our integrated dairy and beef nutritional systems. Mycogen's extensive research and development in Silage-SpecificTM corn hybrids combined with our agronomic and nutritional expertise should result in improved livestock performance and profits for our co-op members."
The TMF co-marketing agreement is for United States distribution only. Mycogen Seeds and Croplan Genetics both market a full line of agricultural crop seeds in the U.S. and internationally through various affiliations.
